    Default Tormach UK - Hunting!

    Hi guys

I'm looking to buy a second hand Tormach machine in the UK.

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to start looking?

Checked eBay and machine auctions but can't seem to find any

If not, what other hobby CNC mills would you recommend?

    Thanks!

Take a look at the other machine forums here. When I was considering a Tormach, I did that and simply ranked the machines by how active the forum was. And then read posts in the top several to make sure the activity wasn't every owner complaining that the machine didn't work, the company ignored him, etc. Tormach has 4000 threads and >55000 posts. Other machines in the Tormach class with at least some activity are Novakon, Charter Oak, and Syil.

Reading this forum convinced me to buy a Tormach new (as second hand machines in 2009 didn't exist). Second hand Tormachs are more available now, but not by much. My informal running talley is somewhere in the 10-15 a year range (based on what shows up here and on eBay). My guess is that Tormach has around 5-8K as an installed base for 1100s. In the UK, with a much smaller user base, your chances are probably somewhere between slim and none barring unusual circumstances or exceptional luck.

Hi, sooner or later one will come-up for sale, but be very careful if you see a 770 offered on (UK) Craigslist. Price looked 'very good' and I went as far as I could by email with the seller who wanted money up-front before a visit to inspect (I know!). In short, it's a scam, and it seems to have appeared more than once for sale.

I'm in Oxford and have owned my 770 since buying/importing a year ago, and am very pleased with the machine and Tormach service, even with their distance and time difference. Happy to offer any help or advice I can.

    Cheers, Andy

I was looking for about 1 year for a second hand Tormach in the UK, Result - Nothing !, I went and bought a New 770, With the exchange rate + Import Duty etc etc
it ended up costing about £10K (inc stand and a few bits).
It is fantastic and I can't see ever selling it, hence I suspect the scarcity of used ones.
A new machine is expensive at the moment because of the exchange rate but you forget the price almost as soon as you start using it so unless you really can;t afford it new
I think that is the way to go.

    Chris

Best of look with that I know of 8 in the UK and was looking and keeping my eyes open for a few years when I had my Denford while trying to learn CNC and never found one so I just got a new one in the end.

To be honest you will not save any money really as I know that if I was to sell my 1100 it would got for a very strong price because there is no others available and there is a 3 man waiting list that have all ready ask me to sell mine every body is scared to import a machine its seems ?

Its not expansive to get the machines in to the UK you can save a lot of cash with being smart on what you order and the places you get other parts from.

The only other thing that pops up all the time is the Denford and Boxford machines but that can be a new subject in its own right.
