    That's something I really need to do. Sometimes you need 3 hands to keep the collet open, pull the old tool, and insert the new tool.

    I like this idea. Thought about a footswitch but really dont want anything else on the ground.

    I replaced the membrane switch because it kept releasing on my when I was changing tools. And the whole "push two buttons to lock it open" was deucedly hard for me to do reliably.

    If you use a footswitch be sure that it is well guarded to prevent accidental actuation. Also, use a proper heavy connection cable with strain relief rather than the RJ-11 telephone extension cord on the Tormach footswitch. I use an industrial footswitch found at the local scrapyard.

    I use the Tormach foot switch, but I attached it to a thin piece of sheet AL, extended out about 4 inches and captured that under the left front foot of my stand. Can't get kicked around and accidentally stepped on.
