I still have a manual Rockwell 21-100 vertical mill Page Title that sits near my Tormach 1100 and uses the same TTS tooling with the exception of thread milling tools. However the manual Rockwell complete with DRO, which is an excellent mill BTW, is rarely used in my shop anymore as all manual operations can easily be performed on my Tormach 1100 using the MDI or 30616 shuttle jog controller 30616 - Shuttle Jog Controller . The absence of hand wheels doesn’t limit the Tormach’s ability to do manual work.

How do you translate "that feels about right" into inches per minute?

    ^^^^This.

Yes I got used to what I could do when cranking handwheels. But I honestly am not able to translate that into IPM feedrates. Funny enough that's what I find hard. Even the nice speed and feeds calculators have huge ranges. I plan on spending some time doing test cuts just to get a feel for what I can do outside from trying it while making parts.

And at that - back to making parts.

I have to agree with you BrianJ. What you said is the main reason I bought my 1100. This will be my first pic on here if it works, this is what one can do manually. Would of done it on the Tormach but, dont have a 4th axis, well that to program this part is a little over my head and the customer needed it overnite. There really is no limit to manuals in making parts, just lots of fancy tooling, fixtures and creativity. Both have there place, I would never give up my Tormach or my 602 XLO mill.

Default I'm not worthy, I bid on a Monarch 10ee.

I'm looking at another Monarch 10ee close by, this isn't getting me any closer to a Tormach.

But then a 10EE isn't a mill let alone a CNC mill. Again it goes to what ends with either a lathe and/or a CNC mill. Mill and lathe aren't mutually exclusive. I find both necessary BTW.

I put a digital RPM gauge, On my 1100. Now I watch the drop in RPMs, It lets me know if I can speed up or should slow down.
