Got it to work. Had to move the Mesa card to the other slot...... But hey - it's working. I'll see what Tormach has to say in the morning and report back.
Setting up my new Slant Pro - when the computer boots us I get a Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS tormachpcnc tty1 screen with a Tormach PCNC login:
What the heck do I do now? This ain't in the manual.

Seems to be an influx of these controller problems.. Wonder if they got some bad boards in their latest controllers.... Makes me glad I did a DIY one!
It isn't a bad batch of motherboards. PathPilot 1.9.x has issues on the latest motherboard revision when lots of USB devices are plugged in while booting because the Linux OS kernel is quite old. PathPilot 2.0 resolves it reliably as the underlying Linux OS kernel is much newer. Motherboard itself is fine and actually is quite fast.
What motherboard are they using in the new controllers?
Got this response from Tormach today.
We upgraded our Path Pilot hard drives recently, and just realized that there was a bug where having multiple USB devices plugged in would bonk the controller to this screen. You should reboot your system with most of your USB devices unplugged – (You may leave the monitor plugged in). This will bring you back to your Path Pilot configuration screen again.
You will only have to do this for a few days, as I am sending you a USB stick with our new Path Pilot 2.0 software – this has a patch programmed into the stick to repair this USB bug. (It is not officially launched until next week, but our department has a few copies to give to customers who need the patch.)
