I need to fine tune my tm2

    Hello All,

My Machine is cutting consistantly too big on a male toolpath and, inversly, too small on the female. On a 37" piece it gained nearly an 1/8". Mechanically the machine is sound and the motor ratios are spot on. So what is the best way to adust within the software for accuracy? I am using TM CAD 7.1 and TM3 driver.

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Dave,

The setting you need to adjust is basically your Kerf Compensation. This is controlled in the Torchmate CAD software in your toolpathing parameters. On the basic cut tab, there is a tool selection. In this tool library you can add or update existing tools with different Kerf widths. Kerf is the amount of material your torch is removing, and varies with speed, height, material thickness, and amperage. Typically to measure this you would cut a straight line with all of the settings mentioned set, and then take a pair of calipers and measure the kerf width of the cut. You can then define this width in your tool library and assign the correct tool.

Also before you begin to cut, check to make sure that tool compensation is set to "none". Since the Torchmate CAD is already setting the offset for you, you don't want to add a positive tool compenstaion to it again. This would make your part too large.
