    Question Circle With Bolt hole Pattern

    Can anyone help on making this in the Torchmate CAD program..

    I need a 6 in circle with 2 bolt hole patterns in it..

    First bolt hole pattern is 5 holes on a 5.50 inch circle pattern.
    (just like a rim mounting plate for a Jeep or Ford)
    Also want it to have 5 holes on a 4.50 inch pattern

    Here is a better explantion..
    1/4" plasma cut plate-steel has three different bolt patterns cut in
    one convenient plate. Bolt patterns are 5 on 4.5" (standard YJ, TJ,
    XJ, MJ), 5 on 5.5" (standard CJ) and 6 on 5.5. Studs are not included.

    Included is an autocad drawing of the part you described above. Other than I didn't know what size bolt holes you wanted so I assumed 1/2" If you open it you will notice:

    1) using a 6" outer diameter the bolt holes on the 5.5" pattern(s) will cut through the outer edge of the plate. Also one of the 4.5" 5 bolt holes & one of the 5.5" 6 bolt pattern holes also intersect. That can be fixed by rotating the 4.5" circle a bit.

    Thank you so much! That sould work perfectly, I'll just make the outside circle a little bigger. And yes 1/2" bolt holes are perfect..

    Is there some formula to figure out the bolt hole pattern?

    No no formula. I am familiar with AutoCAD but most CAD programs have similar commands.

    I started with a 6" circle then centered a 5.5" circle to it then a 4.5". After that I snapped a single line from center across the 3 circles at 90 deg.

    I then drew a 1/2" circle at the intersection of the 5.5" & the straight line. Then use that single 1/2" circle to do a polar array of the 5 bolt pattern then again for the 6 bolt.

    For the 4.5" pattern I trimmed out all of the 5.5" bolt circle except 1 segment between any 2 of the 5 bolt hole pattern. I then used my snap commands again to snap a line between center of drawing to mid point of the remaining line segment. Again draw a 1/2" circle there & do a polar array of your 5 bolt holes again.


    It took way longer for me to type this than it did to do the drawing. There is nothing to the drawing but the very most basic of CAD commands.

    Although most of us here don't care a bit to help. You need to brus up on some cad skills. Several years ago I found a several week 3 night per week course at a community college on AutoCAD. Make you an expert NO. But it will get you going

    In the Torchmate CAD it is simply a matter of placing a single circle the size of the bolt hole you want on screen, add a set of guide lines, one vertical and one horizontal, select this circle and drag the center of the circle to this cross-hair. Use the array tool to define a number of 5 bolt holes, a radius, and then click ok. Simply repeat the process with another rotation of 6 bolt holes and a different radius. Draw a large radius circle, of the OD on the bracket you want, and then drag and drop the center onto the crosshair. Once the patterns are placed, simply remove the center bolt hole and you have your part.
