? for Mike

I am getting ready to run my first "job" on our torchmate 3. I will be cutting 1/4" mild steel. I have really only "played" to this point with it. I was wanting some suggestions on Amperage and feed-rate for the best quality. I have also been doing my drawing in Master Cam X router and saving it as a DXF and importing into the control software and letting software write the code. I haven't got too familiar with the torchmate software yet and Master Cam X gives me the nesting option. I have also posted the drawings and just modified it to work with the torchmate. Do you recomend that I import the dxf or post it with MC? I prefer the MC because I want a lead-in to my cut. Should I use cutter comp to control size more accurate? Thanks...Jeff

Did Jon answer your question about this? I apologize, I was out of the office all of last week and forwarded the email to Jon. Hopefully he took care of any questions you have.

Re-Mike

Not really Mike. I am no stranger to g-code programming, been doing it for many years. I am drawing in MasterCam X (router), this gives me the nesting option I need, but I have to do allot of editing before opening it in the torchmate2 software. I just havent had time to learn the tool pathing in the torchmate cad software. I noticed when I imprt the dxf into the torchmate2 control software and let it post the code, it does not give me an option for lead-in, lead-out. Am I just missing something or am I correct? I plan on getting familiar with the cad software but I am swamped and MasterCam is what I have been doing for about 14 years. Do you know anyone who could modify a router post for me, I will pay whatever the going rate is. I have called Mastercam, but my maintence contract has expired and they wont even talk with me about it. My re-seller is no longer in business.

The Torchmate 2 software does not give you options for creating lead-ins and lead-outs. This is all done in the Torchmate CAD software with the toolpathing preferences. It should be easier to learn the toolpathing then to create a post for MasterCAM. Although you can check with them to see if they have a post processor for a Flashcut type g-code. Or possibly even the Torchmate Users group or with Flashcut.

If you need some help on learning the toolpathing process, I can email you some files on it or you can call up and we can walk you through it on the phone.
