Newbie Intro, Torchmate

I thought I'd post this in this section as I visit it religously everyday. Another Aussie and I have just purchased a Torcmate 3 10 x 5 gantry kit. Its up and running and nearly completed as I have yet to finish my water table. To date I am a fitter/machinist and have had only had CNC experience on a Harrison Alpha one lathe. I plan on starting up a jobbing shop in my local area. I love "The Zone" and have got some great info from here over the last 3 months, from making my water table decision to putting washing soda in it and today I might even go buy some pool acid for cleaning parts. I'll probably post a bit more in the future now that I have broken the ice.

Regards Carl

I must be seeing things. I could've sworn I read something about washing soda reducing rust. I've searched this forum and had a look around the net, only to find zip. Sorry about the bum steer. I might throw a few boxes in and see what happens as I have nothing to lose.

If I was to attach photos to this thread, do I do it through imageshack or does the forum host the pics.

Carl

I use liquid dishwashing soap to keep the water from going rancid, and to breakup the oil slick on the surface. Too much and you can get some intresting bubbles (:-) I don't think washing soda (base) would reduce rust. You may have seen an article of using washing soda with DC current to do electrocleaning. Supposed to remove rust without damaging the surface. I have wanted to try it but haven't got a round tuit yet!

Instead of using a water table we built a big exaust fan under the table that ducts outside there is very little dust in the cutting room
