    Default Cutting 3/4 inch Steel

We have a project coming that may require cutting 3/4 inch steel. We have never cut more than 1/2 inch. The manual recommends an edge cut, but gives no guidance on how this is done. Does anyone have experience with this?

Are you slotting (cutting into the steel, 100% tool engagement) or profiling (cutting off the edge of the part)? It doesn't really matter, you can go a little faster if you're not 100% buried. I usually leave .015 for finish, rough it out with depths of cut about 1/2 diameter of the tool, then finish with nothing left, at full depth.

I think you mean "edge start". That just means your lead-in is on the very edge of your steel rather than piercing a hole. I have had success with piercing 3/4" but I would avoid it it you have the chance as it makes a very big shower of sparks and is very hard on your consumables.
