AVHC Problem

My torch height control will not I engage some times it will only move about 1/16 of inch before torch comes on an sometimes it will go down and touch metal before firing torch have cleaned the guides and screw on AVHC inspected to see if all cables are connected properly, torch fires in manual mode just started doing this periodically but getting worse machine is less than a year old only used minimal time not heavy production what else can I check to get working properly.

There is a small black box, about the size of a pack of cigarettes that has a relay in it that controls the torch firing. I have taken it apart a few times and cleaned the contacts (with brown paper, no files) when my torch wouldn't fire on occassion. Try that. Bob.

thanks jim but the problem was the AVHC was binding up when going down

We had the same problem, despite cleaning the lifters over and over it was still binding up. After taking it apart a final time it became clear that the bearings had taken on a good deal of grit. We used 3in1 oil and repeatedly flooded them until serviceable. This might be the weak link in the AVHC design. Good luck,
