THC are available from upward of $400, machine torches may cost $ 500+ depending on the model. You can go with a THC first and then get a machine torch.
if I buy a 2x2 I would like the pro torch that you see on bigger machines,, the long straight kind. not the standard plasma hand torch.
what do they call this and do you get this from TM?
how much is it? and how much is height control cost?
do you think the 2x2 is too small??
thanks

Every once in a while a product is introduced that changes the world. The purpose of the Torchmate 2x2 CNC Prototyping System is to do just that. The Torchmate 2x2 is designed to change the way you make parts in your home, school or small fabrication shop. It is designed to be versatile, mobile and easy to use. It is designed to bring CNC Plasma Cutting, CNC Routing, CNC Drilling, CNC Milling and CNC Engraving to you in one tight little package. Everyone knew that the time would eventually come when shops everywhere could look at CNC Technology and Robotics as another tool, just like a Mill, Lathe, Router, Bandsaw or Drill Press rather than some daunting thing that is out of their reach. That time has come.
Every Torchmate 2x2 CNC Prototyping System is designed as a multi-use platform to which you may mount secondary tooling for which you would like robotic control and repeatablility. The Torchmate Driver software is included with every system. You simply import your file to be cut into the driver software. A generic mounting plate is included to accept your chosen tool holder, be it for plasma cutting, routing, drilling, engraving or milling.

I was able to adapt a Harbor Freight plasma cutter to be triggered by the control box. This is the sequence for inserting a trigger circuit.
I also built a holder for the torch. I later built a more permanent system to keep the trigger depressed (electronically) such that I can open it up and still use the torch manually.
If I can get a THC implemented, I think this torch could operate very effectively for my prototyping needs.

You willl need the specific torch holder for the hand torch and machine torch. Whats nice about the hand torch is you can use it off the cnc table, the machine torch stays on the cnc table.
As for the 2x2 being too small, I just lost a $4000 job because my 2x2 was too small to to the job(s) in one piece. They went with the only other cnc in town which was a 4x4 table. They wanted items cut that were 4x2 in size and in one piece. Auto torch height control for the 2x2 will darn near double the cost of the machine. Whats nice about the 2x2 without auto height control is you can reach the manual height control hand crank anywhere on the table while in operation.
