    Probing in package 32

How do you probe tools that are 0.100 plus behind centerline and keep the probe from doing a dip scooping motion into the tool which sometimes ends up snapping off probe paddle ? ( It sucks big time when you are doing a rush job and off snaps yhe probe ! )

No I didnt solve my probing issue, and also how do you get p32 to horizontal grind. ( I have zero training on p32. I've just been using it the best i know how for the last couple years and i dont think the company i work for is gonna send me out for training any time soon. ) Thanks

horizontal grinding is an upgrade. you may not have it.
it doesn't come standard with P32.
i have to see the program to offer assistance, but you cant really adjust
probing other than start and end position and distance between.
i have had to modify the form so the machine thinks its in a different position and probe, then go on old values and put the form back to were it should be.
(does that make sense?) another option is dont probe anything except the form. dont probe the end if your not grinding end teeth. if i could see the shape of the form and some info on the flute shape i could offer more help maybe.
    good luck.

Personally i've found P32 a bit of a dissapointment. Maybe the software is a little different over here??? When we were sold are new machine P32 was supposed to be some new fandangled package with alot more options than P7 but tbh athough P7 was a little long winded with having to make Cad drawings and DCW's etc it was a reasonably well made package. If they had added the option to Heliflute and modify the form in P7 it would have been a great package but as always 1 step forward 2 steps back. Do you get clearance problems in P32? P7 ground the clearances perfectly with no horrible steps in the back of the tool like P32!! I have found there are so may problems with walters software and it can be very frustrating at times as you can see how to solve the issue, you just can get the machine to!! Toolstudio is another matter all together, that really needed looking at so much so that they have apparently "completely re-written it". We'll be the first in the uk to have the new version so i'm really looking forward to finding out if they have fixed any of the problems they have with the old versions!!

Sorry it's all gone abit off topic!! Just out of interest what coolant are you guys running and if you are running toolstudio do you have a maximum feed problem?? IE feeds will only move to 2000mm/m??

    Cheers Aaron

Don't really have clearance problems in p32 until i put facets in then is when it starts looking all chopped up and I really would like it if you could back cut in p32 like you can i p7 or better yet they should combine 7 and 32.

    ..resurrection of thread hehe..

...have you figured out your problem?
Are you trying to probe a straight flute or helical? I know in P7, you only need to probe a few points on a straight flute. I can't remember doing anything more than .05 behind / ahead of center line, and never had a problem. I've had much success in P7 doing complex forms, very versatile. Many different kind of clearances are achievable. You can't "tweak" like in P32 right on the machine, (wheel / machine variation, can't get perfect all the time) but once you do the process a few times, it only takes a few mins to spit out a DXF-->DCW to the machine for the corrections.

Ive not used P32 too much, except for simple OD faceted forms, both helical and straight flute. I've never had clearance issues, so I've never had to use facets. As CB1 said, horizontal grinding in P32 is extra, but in P7 its all built in.

As for P32 and P7, that's it. No more software upgrades / bug fixes.. etc... CD12Build21 is it for WWM - Tool Studio is the future...

I am using Trans-O-Grind 250 oil with a Transor 1 micron filtration unit. I'd prefer using SintoGrind TTS oil, but trying to convince superiors is difficult sometimes. If any of you don't use a Transor Filter unit, you should investigate... is quite possibly is the best solution for our carbide grinders.

    cheers

Well, I just found out LCL Software GmbH is still actively updating Package 32. They are at Version 7 now, and if you want to upgrade its $5800. They have included cam relief grinding (axial/radial). It is not actively supported by Walter USA just yet but you can buy the dongle/hardlock, its just they won't give you any support I downloaded the V7, played around on Cyber Grind a bit, pretty neat stuff.

It is probably worthwhile to get the latest free update LCL GmbH (Version 5.64.3 CD12)

    Cheers-

The coolant we are using is blaser hc5 or hc10 i believe and running it through a Transor filtration unit. Don't know about tool studio feeds (I'm not allowed to run that yet)
