I am in the market for a new CNC saw blade grinder/sharpener.I have looked machines with stepper motors and a PLC,machines with servo motors and a heap of electronics to drive them, both are 5 axis, both have linear bearings and ball screws, the machine with servo motors is double the price. Please could someone explain what the difference is. | the more expesive machine will give you tighter machining, better precision, and will stay that way longer, with less repairs. walter makes a good saw blade grinder, probably one of the more expensive ones. www.grinding.com look at how many hours you will be grinding 1 ,2 or 3shifts. at look at your precision, tolerances and stuff. you may have the best results with a cheaper machine. |

| I personally think the Vollmer/Akemat machines are the best for your money. I have been using Vollmer for quite some time and they have their quirks but are super reliable. I would not buy a Walter right now since they no longer build saw grinders and their support could be limited soon. Also look at the UTMA grinders that Colonial Saw sells, it may meet your requirements. All of the modern CNC saw grinders will do oscillation grinding and multi surface tooth styles. Keep in mind that some of the older hydraulic grinders can do a lot of tooth styles, too. The CHP, Finimat Beta machines from Vollmer are great. The U3 from Akemat is a good one, too. |
