LC 4896 starts automagicaly

I recently left my router on with a file loaded and preprocessed. When I went to start the router in the morning, the router had started itself and finished the job! I almost ruined a full sheet of HDU costing $538!

It gets better... Last night I paused a job. When I got home from school I heard a noise from the basement. The job had mysteriously started itself!

What is going on!!!

Wow. I'm not familiar with the Techno interface, but is there a master "start/stop" button or other hardware switch that controls the job? Is it strictly done through their software?

All I can think of is a faulty switch/relay somewhere. A bad/sticky key on the keyboard?

Different situation, but my tablesaw on/off switch once wore out and the saw would occasionally start itself. Needless to say, the motor got unplugged and a new switch installed ASAP.

You can unconfigure the remote start/stop box under setup>advanced>touchpad & remote. You can also look at the switch contacts status under setup>diagnostics.

My gantry machine has never done anything wierd like that. I do not leave my controller application running when I am not reasonably nearby. I also do not leave it paused for more than a few minutes to change a broken bit etc, or I'll just abort the pgm and start over. The controller remembers its position (config option) so I feel better having the Z-brake engaged and power off the motors. You might check any wiring you've done, additions, connections etc. Check the remote start cable maybe it's been pulled out of the strain reliefs or run over with a cart or something and you've got an intermittent short/open.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to check the cabling when I get a chance. The remote box buttons are hard to press to get a response so maybe that box might be an issue.

I suggest you push the e stop switch on the power box, the encoders will not lose their place and with the amplifier cards unpowered it won't go any where.

I have pneumatic cylinders on both my machines so if there is a power drop while milling a surface the z will fall up and not trash the workpiece before the brake has time to grab.

The dumb thing did it again this morning! I woke up and got in the shower about 2 min. later my wife comes in and tells me that the machine has started! I wonder if it could be related to the furnace kicking on? Thank god I just paused the job from the previous night, anticipating an unwanted start this morning.

I checked all my cables and there is nothing wrong with them. I am hesitant to press the e-stop because I have had the interface crash on me before, after I had pressed the button!

The mystery continues.....

I should call techno and ask them.

Check your grounds. The spindle, electronics, and computer should share the same ground. Also check that the table itself is grounded - cutting some materials can build up a static charge that can cause the controls to work strange.

Which start-stop box do you have? Is it a black plastic box with square buttons, or is it the putty-colored box with large round buttons?

I have the plastic box. I have made sure everything is grounded, but I do not think that is the problem. The machine would start when everything is stopped for an extended period of time.

I loaded the new control software (build 420e?) last week but I have not run any large jobs yet, so I cannot test to see if I still have an issue.

I'm guessing you have a cat? In my own application, I added an idle timer to shut down the controller after 1/2 hour of inactivity. I never leave a program in process as a practice, but then, the longest time any of my components take is 20 minutes. It may be a good idea to recommend that Techno add a similar feature. I did it myself for two reasons. I have one motor that is rather old and gets warm even in idle, which means I'll have to replace it soon, and secondly, got tired of forgetting to turn it off.

We had a machine that was turning on by itself. We had to ground the machine to a gournding rod in the floor. WE also grounded the compter cabinet as well. We cut a lot of plastics and the static buildup is excessive on the machine.
