Buying an used Techno, what do you think?

I went to look for a Techno CNC which seems to be perfect for my endeavors. It is priced at 7.5K as it is used. It is 3 axis, servo control, 110V, ball screw, porter cable router, PC and card included, etc. The machine runs and I was able to see a test perform as expected.

I am wondering how safe this deal is and what else should I be wary about. I know that since it is an used equipment, warranty is Dream Land Supreme. The machine is about 10 years old. It seems to have zero backlash. Do you think there is anything getting close to its end of life? Will the electronics manage to live a few more years?

Any input on this matter will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

What model and size is it?

I bought a used lc4896 for about $5200 and love it! I had to replace an encoder and the controller pci card but that was it. The card cost $400 and the encoder $180. I've done some other upgrades but that was all I needed to do to get it running.

Wow, really? That was an amazing deal! I would not mind paying less if I need to fix it a little bit. Your table is larger, though, so I am wondering if the fact that selling such a large table is harder, makes it for the seller to ask for less and see it go quicker.

The table I am looking at is an ISEL 067, TECHNO with 6'X6' table size but 30" X 33" X 7.5" work area. It uses a Porter Cable router, not the TECHNO spindle. The machine has ball screws, is about 10 years old, and after taking a look at it, it seems to be in good shape.

The X axis did seem to squeal a little bit, but I am not certain whether this is normal or not. It is the axis moving the largest weight, so I assume it is not a trivial endeavor. Everything works, though. No need to repair anything.

As a result, it would be priced slightly more than what you paid, although it would come with CAD CAM SW, which is 2K by itself.

The table aluminum surface has a little bit of "teeth marks" as most likely the job was not computed properly on the Z Axis. I would imagine this posses no threat to the jobs procesing integrity even on the Z axis. Hopefully, I am not mistaken...

Thanks for your input! I am still looking around to see what is the best deal. At the moment, this is the only machine I have gone to see, as this is not something that pops up all over the place at once. Hopefully I end up finding an awesome deal.

    Best regards,

    JIQ

The larger routers sell better because you can fit a whole sheet of plywood on the table. I just lucked out with a poorly done eBay auction! Normally the lc4896's go for about $10k and up.

That sounds like a nice machine. Just make sure you check to see of the controling computer can run windows xp. You definitely do not want to have the interface run dos or win98. upgrading the controller can be very pricy.

I think it's an ok deal. You can't beat techno's build quality. Those Germans know what they are doing!
