    Default Laser Retrofit for LC4896

Hi! Newbie to the forum here.

I was considering the possibilities for a Techno LC4896 that I use.
Is it possible to remove the spindle head and install a laser?

My rationale is that it should be possible, just I'm not sure how.

First off, can it be? If so what should I be aware of?

What software could I use to control the router after this is done?

Also, what type of laser may be best suited for this?

Any advice, guidance and the like would be welcomed. I'm brainstorming before I decide on if I should try it, as I'm thinking that I can use the laser for finer engraving work that would really widen the scope of my capability.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    This is tricky but doable.

The main issue is that when the machine slows down to turn a corner, the laser has to be metered, as full output has to be lowered based on the speed.

The other issues are getting the beam over to the head safely and reliably, as well as the final issue, that the table isn't built to have a laser work on it - a proper laser table holds material up and has some vertical space underneath for fume extraction and to prevent burning of the table.

Depending on how good of a product you need, and how much time and effort you want to put into it, you can overcome these issues, but it might be best to leave your Techno as a CNC machine, and find a used laser system - might be cheaper than the time and cost to retrofit at the end of the day.

    Regards,
    Eric

Much thanks. I guess I'll have to look into that.
