Hi, no one really said much when you asked for a text. When I began college, I walked in not knowing anything about milling or lathes. The text that we used was http://www.amazon.ca/Technology-Machine-Tools-Steve-Krar/dp/0078307228]Technology Of Machine Tools: Amazon.ca: Steve Krar, Arthur Gill, Peter Smid: Books , It was awesome. You may consider maybe buying up some used older additions and get a couple of the newest editions for the newest tech. That's up to you but It covers the basics, very well compared to the couple other texts, I have looked over.
