Guys, I decided to breakdown the machine and give it a good cleaning earlier today. Now that it's back together, I noticed that the Z is doing that thing that many have experienced. It doesnt bind or stall the motor but any jog speed over 20ipm makes the axis vibrate while travelling down the column. Up the column is no trouble. I adjusted the side shoes following Nick Carters suggestions and it's great until I replace the spindle motor. I tried doing the adjustment with the motor attached but I couldnt get the vibration out that way. I could try to clamp the shoes and then tighten the screws but will that cause damage? There's no side to side movement so I don't think it requires a gib adjustment. Thoughts? Regards, Mike |

| Mike, I've noticed here in the northeast, my mill goes through changes with the seasons. As it heats up and cools down, the axis definitely "loosens" up but the clamping method you use works for me. Just a little trial and error and it's good to go. Dave

| Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. I would go along with that except it was fine until I took the axis apart and obviously put it back together half-assed! lol I'll try clamping it and then tightening the screws and see maybe if I can tweak it out. Mike |

| lol! Well that was my "round-about" way of making my point. ![]() I would try clamping a bit more as well and feeling the screw by hand to mke sure it wasn't binding up on you. Dave
