I set up my first drill path yesterday. I used a center drill and then 3 different regular drills to come back and make the holes. I am proud of the accomplishment because was my first drill path and my first g-code program with tool changes in it. (I know this probably sounds mundane to a lot of you, but I just got my mill running a few days ago so it’s pretty exciting.)
Anyway, I made the path in bobcad and the stock I am drilling is .080” aluminum. It seemed that I had set the plunge rate too fast and also that I had the spindle sunning too fast. Is there a general rule of thumb when drilling this type of material? Such as run the spindle as slow as it goes and plunge at F4 or something like that?
