I think 1/2 inch is too big for the taig. The highest I think is 3/8s

What is the maximum shank size for tools used on Taig mill. I see that ER-16 collets accept only shanks of up to 3/8" or about 10mm.
Does that mean that all the tools with 1/2" (12.5mm) shanks size are no go?
cheers, dejan

You can buy arbors that are threaded to screw right onto the threads of the spindle that will hold 1/2" cutters.

You can use either collets or arbors on a Taig interchangeably. The collets max out at 3/8", the arbors at 1/2".
Using 1/2" tools isn't generally a problem, though the spindle won't be up to pushing 1/2" mills through difficult materials like steel. 3/8" is about the limit there.
DeArmond / Positive Flow used to have a "slabber" end mill (I think it was 1") which they claimed gave a great surface finish with a TAIG. It was ~$150 and used to be on this page - http://www.positiveflow.com/taigacc.htm - but I can't seem to find it...

I use 1/2" endmills with a 3/8 shank. I'm only working in aluminum, and it takes it no problem.
