Finding vice edge Mach3 MPG .001 stepping or .0001 Taig CR

Like the title says I am trying to use an edge finder (Mituoyo .2 dia tip) to find the corners of my vice on a taig. My procedure has been turn everything on, ref all home, wait for it to home, turn the spindle on and roughly get the edge finder close, then switch to .001 step mode in mach3 waiting for the edge finder to jump. Should I use .0001 mode? I am trying to find the corner of the vice so I can use a G54 command so I don't have to edge find every time I want to do something.

What would give more consistency? I have read that .001 is about the limit of the taig. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming we're talking inches here. I'd use 0.0001 for the final. I know the mill won't resolve better than about 0.001, but you could be just a tenth shy of the mark and then jump nine-tenths past if you use the coarser steps. If you find this too laborious, shange the step settings in Mach to 0.0003 or something.

Mine is set at .001 and then I set my Slow Jog Rate at .3% or point 3 percent
to find the edge. Is this the same thing you are talking about?

How fast are you running the edgefinder 800 to 850 is best 1000 max, for moving your axes if everything is correct, both .001 or .0001 should give you the same position when using a edgefinder

It's good to see that you are using work & tool offsets
