Post a picture of the watchmakers cross-slide you have I am very curious . Taigs cross-slide is a very piss poor design
My cross slide is loose where it slides between the slides... I dont know how to tighten it, or if it's possible, but I have some watchmaker's lathe cross slides (Levin) that are extremely well built, and am wondering if anyone else out there has bought/made something so that you can mount a non-taig cross slide to a taig bed.

Well I'm talking about any cross slide say from a watchmaker-sized lathe.... Levin, Derbyshire, even Boley. Anyone ever use one to replace the Taig one, or find away to upgrade the cross slide that comes with a Taig from new?
Sounds like you just need to learn more about how the Taig cross slide works...
There are set screws that adjust the gib on the cross slide. Adjust them in equally a fraction of a turn and then try the cross slide again. Keep adjusting until you get the play out.

Well between the 2 slides where they connect with a "hidden" mounting thing in only one of the 2 tracks, that's where the flex seems to be, and I can't find how to tighten that... I hope that makes sense... I dont know the technical terms for this stuff. Thanks for the input.
I think you mean the 1200 top slide/compound slide, correct?
If you find that you can't tighten it up enough to keep it from slipping, try placing a piece of paper between the top of the cross slide and the bottom of the compound slide. This usually helps.

Thats the one I figured he meant also Nick , It would be nice if taig came up with a nice compound one piece unit .![]()
