New to Mills/taig need some help

Well I have a small amount of CNC experience, basically I have owned a router table for a year and a half and use it to cut sheet materials like polycarbonate and delrin.

The machine I have is a machine made from HDPE that I got on ebay, it has some play in the spindle mount and a few other short comings but for what I paid for it it has served me well.

Anyways I bought a Romaxx HS1 at the beginning of the year to become my new sheet cutter, much nicer, twice the price though a bit smaller though. It can cut aluminum, but even the seller doesn't recommend using a router for aluminum, and after running aluminum on my other machine I understand why.

So I'm looking at really learning CNC and milling, I have Mach 3 and VCarve Pro and plan to get 3dCut if that's what I need.

I was looking at the x2 but after hearing all complaints about quality I started looking at the Taigs, I was also looking at X3's and the other Grizzly Mills, but a CNC conversion seems pricey, time consuming and would increase my learning curve.

So a Taig CNC Ready kit seems about right to start out on. I'd mainly be cutting aluminum parts, probably mostly small parts. The largest I can think of right off the bat would be 2.5" to 3"s.

My main question is can I use my old router controller and motors, I thought about selling it, but than I have to go through the hassle of selling it.

I have no idea what the controller is, it came as a package, it looks generic.

    The motors are KL23H276-30-8B

I would think they would be strong enough for the job, but I'd rather check than guess.

The motors you have are fine and will work quite well on a Taig. Your controller will get you going though you might consider upgrading to a Gecko G540 based controller later on. Your controller probably puts out 28v at 1 or 2 amps per axis. Your motors are rated 3.0 amps and will give their best performance with a 48v input.

    hmmm,

The controller board looks like it might be an older version or copy of the hobby CNC board.

Look at the chips, they look like allegros, you can find there specs online. The ones on the hobby cnc pro boards can run a 3+ amps per phase at 48 volts. There's a lower current version too I believe.
