    Y axis travel

Ordered a new 2019CR-ER Taig mill and was wondering if it is possible to get more travel out of the y axis... maybe 2 more inches?

    Thanks Bill newbie

thanks Steve, that just may do it...saw some other itdeas but looks alittle more complicated...some guy swapped the x axis around and did some mods on the upright stand. He got a large vise on his table that was restricting travel so he off centered it some way and still retained the 4.5 y travel which I guess was his point because he couldnt use the vise he wanted to use without the mod.

    take care

    Bill

i think i've seen some monster mills where people graft one y axis onto another and build a giant spacer for the spindle.

I can use the extra 1" of y-axis on my Taig as well.

Yea, I wonder why taig doesnt make the y axis as long as the x...maybe people would abuse it with a bigger block of steel or something...I'm a newbie so really dont know what I'm talking about

The longer the Y axis the farther out the spindle has to be from the z axis to make use of the room. This will reduce rigidity of the machine, which it doesn't have a lot of to begin with.
