MRR / Material Removal Rate chart

OK, I admit it, I'm a newbie. I've done about as much reading as I can stomach, and I've learned a lot about why you don't want your chip loads to be too high or too low. I get it, at least in theory, about calculating SFM and feed speeds. I get it about entry angles and preferring side cutting to plunging.

But my stepper driven Taig is agonizingly slow compared to the massive servo machines I cut my teeth on back in engineering school. So I really want the deepest roughing cuts I can get away with. Where in tarnation do I find a MRR chart? My materials textbook has nothing. My Machinery's Handbook has nothing. My applied machining principles text has nothing. The internet has nothing.

Does anyone have a chart of MRR constants for various materials that they can send me?

GWizard GWizard: A CNC Machinist's Calculator covers MRR. You can try googling "feed and speed calculator". No one calculator covers it all but between a couple of them you can probably get where you want to go.

Look at the K value on this one: Hougen Speed and Feed Calculator
This one is pretty good too, there are links for other calculators as well on that page: Milling Speed and Feed Calculator

With the Taig you are limited by rigidity. You are better off taking light cuts at faster feeds.
