I am new to this and have a quesion.
I have to take off .270" off of a 2" x 8" 6061 alum. on a regular basis.
I am using flood coolant.
I started off with a 7/16" 2 flute HSS end mill. I have wore out 2 of these on 12 pieces. They get to where they won't cut. I am down to FRO 6, rpms is 6500 and depth of cut is .01, and step over is 30%. I am using climb milling. I use the G-Wizard as a guide and is helpful.
Someone suggested that I use Carbide end mills, which I have been on my other end mills.
I need to replace these 7/16 end mills, and I guess carbide is the best choice?
I also have a fly cutter, is this something to use instead of the 7/16 end mill?
I have used it once or twice.
thanks,

I have been tired of waiting on this to cut and now I have run the feed rate up to 38 and it seems to be cuttin ok now. Before it would sound like it was going to kill the motor or throw the reset and I would slow it down. Now since it has cut off some it cuts a lot better. The other thing I changed was the direction of my flood collant. I don't know if that makes any difference.
I just don't understand why it wouldn't cut earilier and now it is cutting good.
