    Speed and Feed Capabilities...

    Hi

I'm researching a Taig CNC mill, but my only experience is with the large $100,000+ CNC mills at my old job. I no longer have access to the machines at work since I'm a stay-at-home dad now.

I'm trying to determine what kind of feed rate the Taigs can handle on 6061-T6 aluminum.

    Example:

If I'm milling the perimeter of a .090" thick panel, what depth of cut and feedrate can the machine handle without error? Say, I'm using a .25" three-flute carbide endmill (with flood coolant). Finally, let's assume I'm removing .125" material from both the X and Y as the mill trims the rectangular perimeter.

    2" IPM 5"? 10"?

Thanks in advance for your time.

    Roy

You can go quite a bit faster than that. I slot about .050 per pass at 20ipm with a 1/4" two flute HSS.

Try out Bob Warfield's GWizard http://www.cnccookbook.com/CCGWizard.html, it has a really good feed and speed calculator. Make sure to select the advanced mode.
