Optimal rotary table and boring head for taig micro mill?

Hi/

Please, help to choose a quality rotary table. I like the 4" Shars. But he weighs 20 pounds (10kg). I'm afraid to damage the machine. Somebody uses such a heavy table? Or can somebody advise some sort of quality table (grizzly or another brand)? Sherlain don't want - too expensive for its capabilities.

And about choose a boring head. Has anyone seen the variant with mounting thread directly to the thread of the spindle ER16? I don't know inch analog thread size ER16. But the metric thread size - 22x1,5.

Comparing apples to apples, the USA-made Sherline manual rotary table 3700 4" Rotary Table — Sherline Products is only $3.55 more than the import version marketed by Shars. The CNC-ready version is $56.05 more, but you wouldn't have to design and implement a motor mounting system; it's already done (they don't recommend trying to upgrade the manual to the CNC version). It's also more suitable to the Taig, weighing a lot less than the import table.

If the boring head you want to use has a 22mm x 1.5mm thread, you should be able to mount it directly to the Taig's ER spindle nose, but it might not have the torque to run at full extension in all materials; Taig's boring head only extends to 1.5".

The Sherline RT is a high-quality precision tool. Everything else on the market in that size and price range is ....a Chinese tool. The Sherline is worth the extra money.

Thanks for your answers. Yes. Better table Sherline, on market is not present. Bought yesterday. But the head haven't decided yet. Will use until Taig''s head.

Good choice. But you'll need to adapt it to the Taig T-slot spacing, since Sherline's mills are spaced differently. I don't know if you're using a tailstock, but if so there's also some adaptation required to make the Sherline tailstock line up with their rotary table. The best option is to make up some plates with counter-bored holes for the things you're mounting, and another set of holes that match the T-slots.
