The lathe almost siezed up today. The bearings are whining. How do I replace the bearings?

Spindle Bearings?? Or the bearings inside the belt drive compartment?? I had the large cog drive belt start to scream because I forgot to Grease it..I have ran my C6 @ 2200 rpm for about 10-12 hours per day for 3 days and the Spindle Brngs just got pretty warm. I would check in the belt compartment first...

It is definately the spindle bearings. I did have a problem last year when I forgot to grease the pulley up above and the the left of the motor.Yesterday I disconnected the timing belt and v belt and just turned the chuck by hand and it won't spin freely. The other pulley spins freely as I just greased it last week.

Sorry to hear about the issue being the Spindle bearings...Syil(Xushuo) did offer some help though. I did find this Web Page on the Parts Breakdown of the Lathe.

http://www.peter.com.au/metalwork/al...26-manual.html

I am going to get some extra bearings now that you have had this issue.

I tore into it today and ended up packing the bearings with fresh grease and it sems to be working fine now. I did talk to the bearing house and they have the bearings in stock. If it acts up again I'll just replace them. So I was cutting parts again this afternoon and It was cutting really well. Guess I have just used the heck out of this lathe lately and It is probably just going to be at least yearly maintainence.

I was about to ask you what ever happened with the Turret project. Sounds like if it going back on the lathe you had it there at least once already. You should post some pictures. Mabey you already have in the past. Is that V23 working well? I was kinda gunshy after all the problems in V22. Does it work well in Vista?

I have had the Turret on my lathe..I need to make a new (or edit the exsisting) Screen Set to add a DRO for the A axis. I believe that the Turret would be good for long run stuff...as for V23-I have V22 Lathe Only too, and it workes fine. I just got the mill & Bob Art.when they were having year end sales..They re-pgmed.my dongle for V23 Lathe as a freebie...I have win 2000Pro-P4-3.0-Nvidia QuadroFX4000/with2gig memory workstation/BobCad has always worked V22Lathe&V23-Mill/Lathe.
Here is a Pic of Turret...
