Sx3 Spindle question

To start. I've had my Sx3 for some time and logged more then a few hours on it.
Everything has ran great till now.

Today i was running a simple program on it. And about 2 seconds in the spindle started spinning erratic. It was jumping up and down. Do this for a few seconds then stop. little bit later start again. And would keep going on like this.
Up till now it has never done anything like this.

Any ideas guy?

Oh Yeah a little while ago the lcd board got wet. But i since cleaning it and sealing it up so it won't happen again i have logged some 15 hours on it.

Do you still have your quill DRO mounted? If so, have you insulated it so that it cannot short to the PCB behind it?

CR.

Haven't done anything with that. It never even moves. The quill always stays locked.

Whats funny i flipped the switch out of cnc mode. Brought the speed all the way up and ran it for a minute like that. Stopped it Put it back in cnc ran the program again. and never did it again.

I think it needs a good cleaning and re-seal everything. The flood system may be screwing with it. As it did with the lcd.

Cool The flipped switch.

Sounds like the flipped switch which you use rarely has become intermittent due to lack of use.
Just toggling the switch was enough to disturb the microscopic layer of whatever that was giving it high resistance. This switch in this application is probably running at a current below the switch manufacturer's minimum current spec. This often happens when switches which are designed for switching some power are only run at the current supplied by logic.

Very often the circuit will have a capacitor across the switch, and turning it off and an again is sufficient to clean the contacts, resulting from the high(er) current pulse afforded by the capacitor.

Things ALWAYS stop working sometime. It maybe years until it does it again, but if you see it again soon, replace the switch.

Ahah. The flood system. Look at the environmental rating for the switch. IP?? -- C&K switch (or clone) not meant to run in juice maybe.
