Syil C6 not running smoothly yet Hello, Just received my new Syil C6, connected it all up and was running some manual tests. I have been using Mach3 for some time already on my small sherline. Before starting the tests while putting the stepper motor brackets on I noticed that the Z axis is pretty easy to turn by hand, which makes sense as it is a smaller ballscrew with less to move. The X axis however was quite stiff, and I seem to be able to get it to run a little easier by not tightening the stepper motor shaft cap screw and coupling, which may mean an alignment problem with the bracket. Anyway, decided to go ahead and test the electronics so I downloaded the latest xml for the C6 from Syilamerica and ran Mach3. I can rapid in Z but is is not smooth and when pressing the jog arrow it will change direction on its own. The X axis moves when I jog, but will not rapid at all, and also changes direction even though I am pressing the same arrow for manual jog. Where do I plug the Spindle encoder in on the Syil box, I see no other inputs except A and Y. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Latest info OK, I have the spindle encoder plugged into the Y input and it is working. I still have the Jerky stepper motor problem with the standard SyilAmericaC6 profile. As I mentioned, I can rapid in Z but even with Z when pressing the Jog arrow I get sporadic reversal of direction. No Rapid at all on the X axis, and very jerky jog. I use the same laptop for my Sherline and it works fine, so I know the laptop is fast enough for Mach3.

AH, OK, that may be the reason, I will swap them Ah, OK, I had Z as the Short Ballscrew and X as the long (lead) ballscrew and if Syil tuned them differently, that would explain this. Let me go try. Thanks

OK, a little further now, still need some help Lathe is working well now for Z. I had the cables swapped, Duh!, but while moving cables somehow I toasted the X driver board on the Syil C6 Lathe control box. Do you happen to know the pinouts for the Y axis, they are set to 0 by default in the Syil profile. I want to set them in X so I do not need to create a new Mach3 screen. There was absolutely no documentation for the system, zero, nada. Basically because the lathe is only two AXIS, not three like my mill, I have a spare AXIS. Thanks lobecnc

I was wrong about the spare AXIS I guess Syil only ships the controller with two DRIVER boards for the C6 lathe. I will have to replace the blown X axis. I checked the fuse, it is good. Thanks for the help, I think I will be good now

Z working fine now Z axis is perfect now with new coupler sent direct ship from Syil. Those guys have excellent service at Syil America, One quick question, does anybody get faster than 65IPM in RAPID on Z with Mach3 with the Syil C6 lathe.

i had the same problem with z axis, if you remove the the motor housing you will notice there is a plate that holds the bearing against the ball screw. we found this plate was creating a lot of pressure against the bearing and preventing it from moving freely, as when this plate was off the z axis moved freely. We then took the plate off and faced off .015" and presto we now can run the it @120 imp. before we fixed it we also found that our repeatability was off. hopefully this helps, keith

Some information about the plate on the Ballscrew Hi Thanks for all the replies What I did get from Syil was a new coupler which seemed to work better. Seems to run smoothly at 65IPM. Can you give some details on the ballscrew plate pressing on bearing, is this behind the large nut. Thanks Laurence
