Rotary head slack

Hi.

Verry delayd I am now continuing to set up my x4.
Things have been going slow with this project. To buisy doeing ather stuff lately.

I have now been looking ath the 4th axis rotary head.
It has a lot of slack.
Anny way or possibility to tighten it?

It is to much slack there to do anny kind of precision cutting.

Thanks

Talking Adjustment.

It is possible to adjust the mesh of the worm and wormwheel.
The bearing housing is eccentrically adjustable. Keep adjusting it while rotating the axis continuously. Eventually you will get a tight spot (and skip steps) which is caused by slight eccentricity of the worm wheel.
To get it any better than that you need to design and make a new wormscrew bearing assembly that can support the overhung end of the worm screw in a pre-loaded condition.
Another alternative would be a split wormwheel with backlash pre-load springs.

Thanx neilw20.
It seams that you know your way around syil stuff.
I am also adjusting the z axis gib, or at least trying to.
Is this procedure the same as on the sx3 macine?
I found a tread that explais the adj. on a sx3.

Question As far as I remember.

I've only looked at the X4+, not fiddled with the z gibs on it.
It is probably the same. If the instructions for the SX3 fail then you've discovered they are different.

Lightbulb Here is worm and wheel.

The worm on your 4th axis is not supported by both ends so can bend up and down if loaded.
As you can see if the worm and gear do not mesh PERFECTLY there will be backlash, which means you cant climb mill while 4th axis table is not clamped, to resist the cutter loads.
The idea is not to TRY things. UNDERSTAND things.
SOLVE the problem. Trial creates educational errors.
At least you are a DOER, so you've taken a step in the right direction and you are trying to solve your problem.

Search and destroy....
