Not only is it a learning experience, but also an aid to personal hygiene! The plastic hinges on the folding shower screen finally gave out, so I took the opportunity to make some out of aluminium. Made two mirrored parts (top and bottom hinges) out of a single block and it was nice to see them drop out of the stock on the last cut. |

| The model was done in Solidworks and MasterCAM for the machining. Alignment was easy because I had the two parts mirrored around the X axis. Once I'd machined the top it was just a case of flipping it over and just re-establishing my X zero. X and Y zero was rear left corner of stock. Then I pocketed down to about 1MM of the base of the part, milled the slot that goes down the centre of each part and put the hole and counter sink in. The final operation was to continue the pocket until the parts fell out from the stock. The pictures show the top machining minus the central channel and the slots in the bottom prior to the holes. They fit perfectly in the shower screen supports and that should hopefully be the permanent fix...probably the most expensive shower hinges in existence |
