Another X4+ delivery - a few pics

Thought I'd post up a few pictures of my X4+ which was delivered 2 weeks ago. Have made a stand for it and had to wait to get a new computer (yup should have done all that before it arrived but was busy on other things)

Anyway - initial impressions are very good. All wiring and assembly is to a very high standard.

I haven't got around to actually making anything on it yet.

The MPG is a very nifty addition and I'm glad I went for the X4+ over the X4 for this reason.

Red face Dimensions

Looks great, and nicely finished.
I have placed an order for the same machine from Syil, just waiting for the delivery to proceed.
Could you please assist me with some dimensions to allow me to make a tray large enough to fit an enclosure at a later stage should I feel the need for one.
The dimensions I require are the total width of travel of the table from left and right from the centre of the machine, and the maxinmum dimension from the back of the base to the stepper motor cover when the cross slide is in the maximum forward position. The foot print of the base with hole centres would also be useful if you can spare the time.
Give me your postal address and I will send you a bottle of Aussie wine!!!!!

Martin

Looks great! I'm waiting for mine to arrive too, though it may be a few weeks before it is sent.

I'd be interested in the dimensions so I can make an enclosure as well.

Martin did you order yours direct or did you go through http://www.toolmach.com.au/home.php ? I was about to order direct but went through Frans so I can get local support if needed.

I went direct to Syil, only because I was led to believe the Aussie agent was no longer dealing with Syil China. I also would have prefered to buy through an Australian dealership. Although I'm into importing other goods so this one is no big deal, and Syil have been very good to deal with, just don't know when I'm going to see it!!!!!

I'll get some dimensions later today.
Don't worry about teh bottle of wine - would cost too much to send it to Ireland and I doubt it would get here in one piece!

He sorted out his problems with Syil and is now importing them again and it looks like he will be expanding his inventory too.

gn3dr - Do you have any plans for the first part you will make? What CAD/CAM software are you using?

John T H

No real fixed plans yet on what parts I will make. Will probably be related to my interest in cars though.
I currently do not have a full version of CAD or CAM. I have downloaded the various trials and have had a look. I've no CAD or CAM experience though so it is proving difficult for me to give the different trial downloads the time needed to really get a feel for them. So far I have played a bit with Rhino, ALibre & Dolphin CAD.

Choosing the CAD / CAM system I feel is going to be a problem. I'm definietly not in the market for something like the price of Rhino.

I have bought the full Mach 3 + wizards + Lazycam so I'll probably make do with that for a while until I know more about the whole area.

Martin as for the machine dimensions they are as follows. (I have referenced most measurements from the mounting bolts)

The tray that the machine sits on is 600mm wide (left to right) by 650mm deep.
The base itself is 425mm deep (front to back) I don't seem to have written down the width measurement but from memory I think it was 400mm.

The mounting hole centres on the base are 300mm wide and 380mm from front to back holes.

Distance from rear hole centre to the back of the electronics cabinet - 270mm

Distance from rear hole centre to the back of the drip tray - 65mm

Distance from front right (looking from front of machine) hole centre to the furthest point on stepper cover when x axis is fully extended to right - 490mm

Distance from front left (looking from front of machine) hole centre to the furthest point on table when axis is fully extended to left - 250mm

Distance from front hole centre line to the furthest point in front on stepper cover when y axis is fully extended to front - 300mm

Hopefully that's enough info for you. Sorry for the lack of a drawing!

Thumbs up x4+

Hi guys enjoing you,re posts. Ordered X4+ through Syil Australia about a month ago, Syil Aus. now renamed ToolMach. Dimensions provided very helpful as am about to build mobile stand. What vise are you intending to purchase? Re. CAM have tried all and for cost/features BOBCAD is very good. It gets alot of bad press but as a professional engineer with 15 years experience in designing machinery in Solidworks and Inventor day in, day out believe I'm in a better position than most to evaluate the pros and cons of various software packages. Bobcad in my opinion is good value and I have had no trouble whatsoever trialling it. I actually think it's quite good, I recieved a live online demo in which I supplied a number of complicated aerospace parts in solidworks native format. To my surprise the guy at Bobcad imported the solidworks parts generated tooling paths, tool changes etc quckly and efficiently. Since then have played with it further and am now able to handle the more complicated parts also. I think most of the bad feedback comes from users who have only a basic knowledge in cad/cam software (which is likely as the software is priced for the hobby user not at the prof. end of the market).

Has anyone considered the tormach tooling system?

Thanks for teh feedback on BobCad - muast have a look at that.

I forgot to say that all my measurements were taken with a ruler and by eye so I would allow a slight tolerance in them if you are going to use them (perhaps +/- 1mm)

I bought a vice from Syil when I was getting the machine - I think it was called the quick vice.

The Tormach toolchange system looks very tempting - I can see that in my future somewhere but I think I'd better stop spending and make something first.

On making parts - does anyone know of there is anywhere on the web with a library of g-codes for simple parts examples that could be downloaded.

Hi
Syil sent me a link to download the manual. I'll PM it to you in case they do not want the manual available to everyone.
