How homing and limits work

I've got a video that might answer a few questions on homing and limits. Here's the link:

Could you make this file downloadable please. It does not want to stream very well at all. It would be far less painful to watch without continual stops. It looks like an excellent tutorial and I know someone who is trying to figure out the homing setup today. Thanks.....

I'll do my best. I'm not a web guy. I'll ask around and see how I can do that.

Pause for a bit, and let the bar get ahead.

If you hit the pause (||) button, it will continue reading ahead. After a minute or so hit play (>). That makes it a bit more useable until someone figures out a better way.

Great Video. Helpful stuff.

Thanks,

There is a tremendous number of things that a person can do with the controller and the machines.

Feel free to correct me on anything I've done.

Yeah good job with the video.

The more simple and concise stuff like this available for beginners the better.

I would recommend that people also watch the video on the Artsoft site called "Coordinate Systems"

Found here, http://www.artsoftcontrols.com/Video...elections.html

Actually you should watch the first three as a good starting point.

Great video. As I understand it, I don't need hard limit switches. With just 3 home switches and 6 soft switches, the mill will never crash into the physical stops. Is this correct?

Never is a big word. But that is the general idea.

After start up you must of course do a "Ref All" or often called a homing run.

As the video shows that lets Mach know where it is in relation to Machine Coordinates, then soft limits if set up can be used.

So the answer is a qualified yes.
