My SX3 flood coolant base

Hello,
I got the final colored coat(red) of epoxy on my flood coolant base last week-end and got it installed under the SX3 last night. I think it looks OK and the RED epoxy is not too far off from the red on the SX3. I hope it does not look like too much red. I need to finish the clear Lexan sides and front still, and have even thought of using aluminum sides and rear with small windows in the center and a full clear front sliding door(s) but have not decided on the final design yet. I have to thank Lou Cetrangelo for posting his coolant base drawings on the CNCZone and so far his plans have worked out very well. I am attaching a picture of my SX3 on my flood coolant base for viewing and comments.
Regards,
Wes

Looks smart but does it need to be that big?

After paying £150 for the standard base I'm going to need to fabricate something myself. I've thought of using a car windscreen washer pump, will this pump enuff ?

Hi Babba,
The base does look big compared to the footprint of the SX3, but if you figure out the travels for the each axis the size needs to be slightly bigger than the travel at the extents(stepper motor guard etc) in each direction. I believe I will have a couple inches of clearance at each end of the X axis and the back of the machine control box is clearing the back of the enclosure by about 3/4" to 1/2" so it actually is about the right size I think. It will probably look even bigger when I put the sides up on the enclosure. I am not sure if the windshield wiper pump will provide enough flow for a flood coolant system but then again I guess you can try it out. I was lucky to find a used Enco flood coolant system for sale on eBay for a reasonable price. I depend on eBay for a lot of different things I need. The plans for this coolant base are on the CNCZone in the Syil machines section and were offered by a guy named Lou Cetrangelo.
Regards,
Wes

What are the dimensions of your base? I'm getting ready to build an enclosure and I haven't uncrated the mill yet. Richard Lowe recommended that I build it 52 inches wide, 36 inches deep, and 36 inches tall. How does that compare to your numbers.

Anybody have any preferences as to what is a comfortable height for the mill. My initial guess is to put the base of the mill about 36" off the floor. Let me know if your height is to the top of the bench surface or measured to the top of the mill table.

Hi thackman,
I got the plans for the coolant base/enclosure from Lou Cetrangelo as he had posted them on the CNCZone. I tried to find the post with the details without any luck but I do have the file in a zip format that he had posted. I will try to post a picture that shows the dimensions of the base.

I have corrected the information with Lou Centrangelo's name.
