Im curious about the spindle upgrade that is now coming standard on all the syils. What is it? Gears, motor upgrade, what. Also, for those who have it, how do you like it, does it still provide the necessary torque for low speed applications. Thx. |

| -SX3 spindle upgrade- I have the SX3 with the spindle upgrade and it involves a bigger cogged pulley and belt for the higher speeds and the computer controlled spindle board for starting, stopping and speed control of the spindle from within the program. I believe the same board is used to control the flood coolant provision if it is implemented. It is a nice feature to be able to control the spindle speeds from within the program and stop rotation at the end. I don't think torque is a problem although some of the first spindle control boards did have minor problems and I think they have worked those minor details out. I myself had some problems with the spindle board that came with my SX3 but SyilAmerica has been great with support and my replacement spindle board is working good since installing it. I think if you have any questions about the SX3 or other SyilAmerica machine or a purchase thereof that Richard at SyilAmerica would be able to give you all the information you might need. | So if you double the speed with pulleys and belts how do you address the raising of the lower range with subsequent loss of torque? This will increase the lower speed to about 200 rpm and may even put the useable speed nearer to 300 rpm which is far too fast for some larger cutters. Is it a question of physically having to keep changing pulleys and belts all the while to enable you to use the lower and higher speeds ? PR. |

| Yes, I don't think the spindle control board will be too difficult to mount and do all the connections provided they have instructions and or wiring diagram to go with it. I assume you already have the SX3 but without the spindle upgrade? I ordered my SX3 with the spindle upgrade so the spindle control board was installed already and I only had to install the 3600 rpm pulley and belt to complete the upgrade. I did not get the flood coolant or 4th axis with mine but I have made a flood coolant base for it and will probably add those options later. Wes |

| I think it will as if I remember correctly the main difference in X3 and Sx3 was the longer Y axis ballscrew. This would be a question best asked of Richard at SyilAmerica or at their web site, unless some other member on the CNCZone has a more definite answer. Better verify it before getting it. Wes |

| I spoke with Richard about adding this to my standard X3. He told me that the upgraded spindle will not work on the standard model. The only option I can see for a speed increase is to eliminate the gears and go to a belt and pulley setup which has the added benefit of decreasing the noise created in the geared head. |

| The upgrade I got was a belt and a pulley. I haven't installed them yet as the standard 1700 RPM top speed is enough for now. It's supposed to be an easy upgrade. No change required to the spindle control board (at least on my system), though I've wondered if I'll need to make a change in Mach 3 to get it to control the speed properly if I do make the upgrade, since it won't know about it. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Involute |
