    3D Printer or X3D Printer

I have been looking at rapid prototyping recently i.e. 3D printers and RepRap community. Browsing this site I found a 3D printers forum and would you believe it some genius has come up with the idea of using a cnc mill as the basis of a 3D printer.
Add a print head (controlled fine glue gun) to the spindle a control card to drive it, an add-on to Mach3 and away you go, can’t wait to build one
What a wonderful world we live in!!!

Unless you have a very fast CNC machine, it's not optimal for 3d printing. X and Y axes on 3d printers are typically belt driven and have rapids in the 500-1000 ipm range. Print speeds are often 300+ipm. Printing will take forever if you're running at normal mill/router speeds.

seemecnc isn't doing conversions, but their stuff is Mach 3 based. They have a Yahoo forum (ugh,) with a bit of discussion of using Mach 3 to control 3d printers.
Their hardware is pretty cheap too, especially if you have a PC with Mach and the electronics already.
