    X5 spindle problem

    Hi everyone

I've had my x5 for around 6 months now and have finally started getting to grips with it. Its always been a bit odd in terms of starting the spindle in cnc mode. Sometimes at the start of a program it just doesn't start the spindle. I've found that if you go into manual mode, run the spindle for a few seconds and stop it, then go back into cnc mode and try running the program again it seems to fire up the spindle so i've been running the spindle in manual mode as a matter of course before running any programs.

I dont know if this is related, but today half way through a well used program the spindle just stopped for no reason. I couldnt get the spindle to run again after the probem. If I went into manual mode the spindle would run and stop fine. Then on going back into cnc mode the spindle would just start up on its own! I had to turn the machine off and back on to get things back to nowmal. Obviously i'm a little concerned this problem may happen again and cause some damage.

I've had a read through some older threads and this seems like a relatively common problem with no real answer other than 'its probably the dodgy wiring'. I've had a rummage through the wiring and found one very loose crimp on one of the connectors to the small board mounted on the motor control board. I dont personally think this is the cause of my problem so thought I'd get on here to see if anyone has any thoughts?

    Regards

    Adrian

    Hi Syil

It was bought this year from Hugh at Syil UK, I think it is either a 2010 or 2011 model.

I'll have a look over the machine tonight for a serial number.

    what model do I have?!

There is no serial number or anything obvious as to which model machine I have, are there any obvious ways of telling?

No info on the invoice as to the model. I've been in touch with the importer and its a 2010 machine.

    Hi,
I have had similar problems with my 2010 X5+. Some times spindle is just very slow to start and the speed is not very stable. I have never been able to find any reason for it.

    Regards
    Stephen
