    SX3 Spindle Control

    Hello,
I am new to the forums and have done a little research into the possibility of an SX3 spindle control upgrade. I have a running Grizzly SX3 mill I converted to CNC with no issues. I have seen a few different potential options for spindle control, but really don't see a whole lot of feedback, which is not good.

The first was an upgrade kit from Kelinginc.net that appears to be lacking torque on deeper cuts?

The second is a Syil upgrade kit that I cannot find much information on.

The third was a potential solution that seems to be halted by a user named Quazar on one of the forums who was going to try to create a pass through for the existing boards and control speed that way.

Are there any opinions on the way to go with this that:
    1) gives higher speed than stock
    2) gives as good of torque as stock
    3) readily available without charging and arm and a leg, or potentially something to add as a project to work on myself (I am an embedded programmer and if I had enough information as to why current attempts are failing, I could try my own approach without rehashing the wheel).

Any constructive feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks

If you are running a grizzly the best bang for the buck would be to change the pulleys to get the machine up to 3500 RPM (if you have not done that already). If you want to control the speed I believe you will need a new motor and a controller that supports it as you probably already know. The Syil kit might require you to use all Syil electronics, not sure. Anyway, to get more power I did not find an economical solution that would keep the head at a reasonable weight and/or that would fit inside the head. Also the 1.34hp of the original spindle (if that is the one you have) already allow you to take cuts that abuse themachine rigidity. So whike it might be fun to get more hp in the spindle you may have throuble taking advantage of it.

I guess I should check this forum a little more often. There is a thread ongoing in Benchtop Machines that addresses this very issue. You can read the progress here:
