Smile X4 limit switches position? and the last SX3 video

Hi, I finally got to upgrading my SX3 to the X4 electronics this weekend.

For old times... here is the last video we shall have of my SX3

[nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cfh2yQZwK4"]YouTube - Last Video on my Syil SX3[/nomedia]

    So...

Also adding the "new" limit switches.

From the Syil website we can see that the Y switch is placed in the front as shown in the attached picture.

Is this really the best spot for the Y switch?

Where is the X switch placed?

A picture would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

I think I figured it out. I'll be keeping both switches behind the table where I can protect them better from physical damage and from splashing. I'll post some pics when it is all done.

Hmmm, now I have to paint the mill that Corvette yellow j/k

the limit switches are the same, located at the same place, the x is located on the back side of the table, your sx3 came without limit switches?

Don't remember no more... so long ago

I had removed them, do not recall why... may be they broke. Yes, I think the plasticky thing broke.

Just curious, are you guys from Argentina getting the power drawbar or is that a Syil Canada only item?

BTW, going to Brazil for a small vacation in a month or two... still a bit too far to stop by your shop

we are receiving in 15 days among other machines an X7 with power drawbar installed by Syil China, no, its not Syil Canada drawbar, is Taiwan made.

I guess you are heading Rio or Bahia, yes thats a long trip to Buenos Aires, the beaches there are fantastic!

Not quite, I'm going to Sao Paulo on kind of personal business, but I'm looking forward to pigging out on my favorite spots. Yes, the beaches are gorgeous

    So anyway...

I'm hitting a bit of a snag in my upgrade. Mach3 is registering over 2 inches of travel for each 1 inch of actual movement. My kernel speed is 25000Hz and my steps per inch is 10160. Weird.

Any idea of what is going on?

It would be great to have an xml file for the X4 electronics and SX3 driver/motors?

Hmmm the spindle speed is also 20% lower than requested.

I had an office in Sao Paulo for two years, not the nicest city but if you look deeper there are really nice places. The beaches are less than 100km away but on the weekends this trip can be of 4~5 hrs because every Paulista wants to go to the beach...

    back to the sx3

you need to recalibrate the motors, if the machine is moving 10 when you say to move 5 just put half the value in steps/rev in the motor tuning config page and it should work OK, don't forget to save the axis after you change settings.
To fine tune the movements you will need a comparator, then go to alt-6 settings screen and calibrate axis (lower left part of the screen)

for the spindle play with the pwm value in port/pins>spindle settings, is not dead accurate, but I'm sure you noticed that it spins to desired speed much faster.

At the office I have the SX3 profile I used when I retrofitted a sx3 to x4 like you are doing, if you still need it let me know.

I'll try that. But... Wouldn't changing the steps per inch diminish the "resolution". I checked the x3 and the x4 manuals and they both have the 10160 value. Am I running into some sort of incompatibility or perhaps I need to turn on some sort of microstepping or something?

    Thanks!!!

the microstepping is adjusted at the driver, the mach3 setting is to calibrate to the driver settings & ballscrew tpi.

I'll check the driver docs and report back tonight. Do you recall what you used in your upgrade?
