    Feed/Speed cutting steel on X4

Cut lots of aluminum but soon to delve into steel.

Any ballparks on reasonable feed/speed and DOC for carbide tooling say 3/8 and 1/4 endmills cutting 12L14 and 1018?

How many flutes, DOC, and WOC? For 3/8", 4 flutes, 0.1" DOC, and 0.25" WOC, MEPro says 2500 rpm and 14 ipm.

    Mike,

No, I don't have an X4 - those were a feed and speed recommended by MEPro software, which I use for such things. Unless your mill is made out of wet noodles, try that and adjust up or down as necessary to get the results you want.

Well for inside pockets things may be different. Everybody quotes feed/speeds assuming you can cut WOC to be less, frequestly much less that endmill diameter. I would like to know how people manage to do so while digging an inside pocket when you have to plunge or helix your way in at full slot.

Has anyone gone full slot with X4 on 1018 with any endmills? ANy ballparks on DOC and IPM?
