Default Zero Tool on Z Axis

    Hi,

I have read that someone has made a tool probe, and has configured Mach3 to auto zero the tool. I believe it can also be used as an edge finder.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to do this?

    regards to all,
    Byron

There are a range of ways this has been done. From the simple to fairly complex.

For an example of a simple one have a look at this thread,

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36099

And here is a demo of this and a couple of other ideas

I use this on a router, engraver and mill.

I'm very interested in this as well. Here is a pic of the board from the manual and the board I have. Is it one of the 5 empty connectors labeled pin1-pin5? I searched for a manual on this board but did not find anything. All we have is that the aux are pins 1 (OUT) and 7 (OUT) on the parallel (says so on the Sieg manual). I think one might already be in use if you have the coolant option (?)

Are these just open/close contacts and the only thing we need to do is to put something that either opens or closes the circuit when the position is reached and the corresponding hi/lo will be relayed on the parallel port or is it more complicated?

    [Edit]

There is also a "Digitizing Probe" at pin 11 (IN), but there is no other mention of it in the Sieg Manual.

Hi Greg, on the PCB the socket next to the e-stop is marked "pin 5" (pin 6 is the e-stop and pin 10 is the A ref. The pin 11 mentioned in my original post is on the parallel port. Do you believe that pin 5 on the board (the one next to the e-stop) maps to pin 11 on the parallel port? Sorry, just want to make sure

These plugs have three pins. Which two terminals are used?
One wire would go to the touch pad (pcb or similar), where does the other wire go to?

This is all the info I have.

Make sure it is the same version and you should be right.

Those labels are just what the BoB manufacturer put on them.

Mach does not care what you use inputs for. You have five on the first LPT, 10 11 12 13 and 15

So by all means use that input if it is spare.

    Thanks Greg,

I'll give it a try in the morning.

In Mach3, under ports and pins - inputs, I am setting up the "probe" right?

    That's right.

And on the diagnostics page the LED you want to look at is called Digitise.

I cannot believe how easy that was!

    Thanks Greg!

It should have been done a long time ago.

If I wanted to create my own screen In Mach3, How do I go about doing this?
I would like to have more control of the spindle, In particular, the overrides.

Mach has a screen designer called Screen4. It is often referred to as Scream4.

It is a bit flakey but does work. Lots of screens have been done with this.

To get away from most of it's bugs, edit on a larger screen resolution. So that scrolling is not necessary.

The other option is the new kid on the block called MachScreen.

I'll give them a try later on. I have downloaded both of them.

    Once again Greg, Thanks.

What is the name of the connector for those pins... the ones that plug in the 3 wires for the sensors? I need to get one, but I need to search by name.

    Thanks!
