    Need Help ShopCam\SurfCam

I am an IT manager for a larger company and We just hired a new programmer after terminating our old one. We are unable to find ShopCam or Surfcam files for some of our parts. However, We have the G Code file or TAP File for the part. Can we generate a drawing from that data and if so How?

    Thanks

It is possible to extract geometry from toolpath, but it's been so long since I've seen it, I would be hard pressed to tell you how. I wouldn't use that to replace models of your parts though. But, there are experienced Surfcam folks here, and some one can surely tell you.

What kind of parts are we talking about? Ones that require 2D or 2 1/2D programming? Or are they parts that require 3D programming? Were the parts drawn in Surfcam or a solid modeler like Solidworks etc.? If your engineers have models of your parts, it might be better to just re-cam them. If they were drawn in Surfcam with 3d wire and surfacing, ouch. That is tedium compared to a parametric solid modeler. Let us know a little more about the task, and perhaps we can help.
Hey, why's it going over there?!!

I would search the HDD on the Local PC and Server for *.DSN, *.ICD or *.SCPRT before trying to extract the geometry from G Code.

Yes you can Import the G Code file then Convert the INC to Geometry.

These buttons not on the Default Menu bar.

    Steps
    1. Open the Operations Manager.
    2. Double click the Menu Bar at the top to customize.
    3. Scroll down the list on the left and locate the Import NC File and INC to Geometry buttons and Add them to the Toolbar.
    4. Click the Import NC File button and browse to your G Code file, there will be a couple dialog boxes that require input, Tool Size, etc.
    5. Click the "Other**" Toolpath in the Operations Manager then click the INC to Geometry Button.
