Surfcam prompt for user input in MPOST

Anyone ever experimented with prompting for inputs while posting a program?

For example, O<Program#> will prompt the user to enter in a program number. We all know that. I'd like to include prompts for customer, part number, revision level, etc. without having to manually enter the information into the nc code. Has anyone done this?

You're referring to an ASK command.

It tells you how to use these on page 17 of the Mpost Format Reference Manual that is included with Surfcam.

Honestly it would be easier to put this info in the Additional User Information block inside the NC Section Info screen and checking the Output User Info As Comments. This way you'll only have to type it once per program instead of every time you post.

Or if the path to your NC file has all this info in it you could set your post up to output the path as a comment. But if you have long paths that also becomes tricky.

Thank you, Billetgrip. I like your suggestion about using the Additional User Information and I may try to implement that. I'm not sure where my MPOST manual is - if I ever have one anymore. But I will look for it!

What version of Surfcam are you using?

For 2014 it is located by default C:\Program Files\SURFCAM\SURFCAM2014\Apps\MPost.

Thank you! I implemented the "ask" function into my mpost and it works great - BUT... it appears the information entered needs to be numeric. Is there a way to allow letters and symbols?

I forgot all about that.

You may be able to use one of these

but your program would need to be named
the same as the info you wanted entered.

I'm still going with the Additional User Info
route for being the easiest. At least the
easiest for me to figure out how to do lol.
