SURFCAM 5.1

i am currently useing v5.1, due to v5.2 and the problems with that version. just in the past couple of months started to notice that the cutter wants to take a nose dive to the vise, i can see it in the toolpath, i cant figure out why, there is no gaps in the surface, nothing wierd about the surface. it is only in planer. also another problem just started last week. when i go to edit a toolpath, change work offset or tool number it just freezes and closes, then when i reopen the toolpath is gone??

has anyone else had these issues?

Both V5.1 and V5.2 have their problems but V5.2 has been more stable for us. In fact I couldn't use V5.1 at all. V5.2 cashes about once or twice a day still. V4 is still the best version available.

As for your tool path problems I would have to take a look at the file but haven't ever seen a 2D planer cut plunge without some programming error on my part. Contact your vendor, that's what he's there for.

all the plunges are in 3D planer cuts. as for calling the dealer that is useless, after the troubles with 5.2, they were not able to fix problem, they tell us they are comeing in " we have a fix" and dont show up, then call 2 days later to say they wont be in. i think i might go back to velocity 4, think that was the best for us too

thanks

Ok I misunderstood. I thought you meant a 2D cut of some kind. 3D planner can be bit temperamental. Check the surfaces for errors (Edit>Surfaces>Check) and replace/rebuild those with errors. I would still like to see the file. I just found a problem with the standard 3D Cut trimming against a capped surface that gouges real bad that also gouges in V4. I rebuilt the surface and the problem went away.

Some of Surfcam dealers are real flakes some are pretty good. Try sending the problem directly to Surfcam. If they refer you back to your dealer tell them he’s on “vacation” or something and need help right away. If Surfware made a reliable product they would have more reliable dealers. There is a real disconnect from the end user and the developers right now or may have always been one. They desperately need a user forum. This is the only Surfcam forum on the net that I’m aware of that’s “active”.
