Beginner's Guide to CNC Machine Design

It would be nice to have somewhere to send "beginners" to, so that we don't have to answer the same questions over and over again.

    Chapter Suggestions:
    What is CNC?
What is needed to design a CNC router.
    Designing a CNC mill.
    Adding CNC to a lathe.
Typical CNC drivers and their components.
    Software for design.
Software for controlling a CNC machine.
    Sources for parts, etc.

Excellent idea! One thing that I would add to your list: A compilation of all the different ways of making anti-backlash nuts. There are a lot of different ideas that have been posted in the past few months. I think that making the nut and attaching it to the table is probably the biggest hurdle for a lot of people.
