    Ask the expert?

    Hi,

I would first like to say what an excellent site this is, many thanks.

My suggestion is a forum named some thing like “ask the expert”. I have seen on many occasions threads were questions have been asked that could only really be answered by members with expert knowledge of a given subject. I also see these threads in forums where it is unlikely the expert member will ever look. I know there will be problems like wrong forum and repeated question. I am sure a moderator could move these questions or give links to similar/same question.

I could see the “ask the expert” forum becoming an excellent resource to other members with advice that can be taken as 99.9% correct and would save the problem of “is the answer I have been given the right one?”

"ask an expert" seems to be a bit of an odd idea, as now instead of just checking the section of relevance for information, you now need to trawl through a mix of 'expert' questions, most of which are repeats of questions posted (and answered) in other sections.

What is so difficult of looking in electronics for electronics related info, and general machining for machining etc ?

Surely questions that require an expert should already have been asked in the general forum without a good answer, be technically very specific, and ideally contain as much info about the problem as possible. What i mean is there are very few questions that actually need an expert.

There is already a FAQ section for the kind of questions new people are likely to ask, so what is this for??

I mean ok sometimes people with limited understanding answer questions wrong, but i have seen that happening in the 'expert' forum too.

could you put a sticky in expert forum letting us all know what you think should be posted there, and what belongs in the proper section, so we are all on the same page?

Yeah, I guess anyone that wants to be an expert, would qualify?
