What stepper motor should I use thread

Got a Z-axis with 250mm stroke, 20mm ballscrew 5tpi with 2 Star rails and 4 blocks size 20 and a weight of around 60lbs, hoping to mill aluminum. what size stepper should I go for?

Hey,

A few day’s ago I have bought three stepper motors but now when I’m looking around I think my motors are a little underpowered. Please your advise.

The specs:
Voltage 4.2V
Current 0.6A /Phase
Max Input 5.0W
Step angle 1.8
Holding Torque 0.196.Nm

The main purpose of my (almost build) CNC router will be cutting thin wood and plastics (maybe aluminum). By thin I mean max 5 millimeters.

P.S.
The motors are for the tree axis and not for powering the drill. This will be a Dremel.

I'm planning on building a 3 axis machine for use on wood and plastic. Dimensions will be close to 2' x 2' x 4" for the machines travel.

My biggest question, is this everything needed to move the machine and get feedback as to what position the axis are at? I know steppers can have feedback.....but not all do. I know there are other components needed for giving the machine coordinate information.

Hi. I'm building a moving gantry router that is 6 x 4 ft. My gantry probably will weigh around 125lbs. The x axis is driven by a single 1.5 inch ball screw with a .250 lead. The y axis is driven by a 1 inch ball screw with a .250 lead. I have high quality THK linear bearings on all the axis. I was thinking about buying the candcnc package with 260oz motors. Are these motors powerful enough? Should I go to something around 500oz, or those 640oz nema 34s? I don't have access to a torque measuring device of any type.

I cut mostly wood and some soft metal.

I am converting a Lagun mill (Bridgeport clone) to CNC and have been searching CNCzone for information on what motors, drivers, power supply, breakout board etc to use. So far all I have become is confused with the TONs of info here.

Is there anyone willing to give a frustrated fellow CNCer the benefit of their experience gained by converting such a mill? A comprehensive shopping list of parts used for a BP mill conversion would be absolutely fantastic! Heck, just learning what motors to use would be a great start.

I hope this is in the right thread.

Im looking to build a cheap 3 axis hobby CNC for cutting plastic and maybe engraving aluminum.

Trouble is Im not sure what degree/step motors I should be using.
As its only a hobby mill to begin with im not looking to sink too much money into it. All the motors I can find from old printers are all around 6-7 degrees per step.

Would this give a useless resolution?, Would it be usable for the z axis if i found something with a smaller step for the x and y?

I welcome and am grateful for any advice and CC, You will probably hear more about this project as it presses on also.
