    Question Mixing steppers

    I will use two matched steppers to drive my main 'x' axis, however can I use a different rated stepper to drive my 'y' or 'z' axis or must all steppers be matched the same.

    Problem is I have 3 perfectly good 2nm steppers and I want to use these for the Y and Z axis. I need only buy a pair of matched steppers probably 3nm or more to drive the 'X' axis.

    Your 425s will move a little slower, but YES you can mix them on the Z and Y. A pair of 60V 270 oz KL23H276-28-4Bs should work well with 57V PSU and do you proud on the X axis.

    Remember: you will need 2 separate drivers, one for each X motor. Both drivers will connect to only one axis (X) step and direction on the BOB.

    y and z steppers

    Thanks CR,

    I have 3 of KL23HM276-30-8B, I will drive these with my 54Volts.

    I'll need to buy a matched set for the X axis.
    These will be FL60STH86-3008BF, These are rated at 3nm in Bipolar(P) configuration. And of course as you advise I will use a seperate controller for each.

    Okay. So the motors you HAVE are the 2nm kelings and the motors you want to BUY are the 3nm 425s.

    Bummer! The 2nm motors are for 48V PSU. Overvolting with 54V may fry them.

    I suggest that you go to a 48V 12A PSU, Use 2 of the 2nm motors for X. Use the other 2nm for Y, and buy one of the 3nms for Z.

    Overvolt

    Thanks CR, There is facillity for adjusting the voltage on my PSU, I might be able to wind it down to a little bellow 48v.
